Best Start Website Survey We Want to Hear from You!

The City of Greater Sudbury Childrens Services in partnership with the Best Start Integration Network partners are constantly striving to improve and streamline our service delivery.  As part of this process we have developed a survey to explore how our website can best deliver information to children and families.  We are asking all families who use the Best Start Website to participate in this survey via Survey Monkey.  Participants will have their name entered to win a one year membership to Science North. The survey is comprised of 17 questions and only takes four minutes to complete. Surveys must be completed in full for registrants to be eligible. Some conditions apply. Thank you for your support!

Share a Book Campaign

Please donate new or gently used children's book. Putting books in the homes and hands of children and families who use our local food banks in Greater Sudbury is the goal of the 2015 Share a Book campaign. In conjunction with Family Literacy Day on January 27, Cambrian College Early Childhood Education students along with community partners are pleased to launch the third annual Share a Book campaign. Please hang the attached posters in your programs to help us promote this campaign and feel free to share the poster.

From January 27 to February 27, members of the public can donate books at the Main, New Sudbury, South End, Chelmsford, Valley East and Lively branches of the Greater Sudbury Public Library, as well as the One Stop Enrolment Centre at Cambrian’s Barrydowne Campus.

Over 3000 books were collected in 2013 and they were distributed to 15 local food banks in our community in 2013.  Not all children have equal access to books in their homes, and building a home collection means children will always have a few favourite books that they can read again and again.  Research shows that in terms of academic success, having books in the home is a more important factor than the parent’s education level.  Having as few as 20 books in the home still has a significant impact on propelling a child to a higher level of education, and the more books you add, the greater the benefit.

Books can be dropped off at Cambrian College at the Enrolment Centre and all Greater Sudbury Public Library branches from January 27 to February 27, 2015.
